Home Our New Home Our Home Chandelier

Lightro Showroom

Our home has been a work in progress ever since we got our keys in March and from lighting to bedding to kitchen, rif and I have been pretty hands on throughout. We even sought advice from three interior designers for some ideas on how to do up our place.

Antler collection

All three designers suggested a chandelier that ‘balances’ the modern structure of our home – and at that time, I didn’t understand what they meant. Until I stumbled upon THE chandelier I wanted when we were randomly window-shopping at Lightro in SS2. I had initially settled for a chandelier from an Italian designer and it was very futuristic. We even paid the down payment for it.

Branches collection

After looking at the chandeliers on display, I found one that was the right fit. I liked how each and every lamp is different as these pieces are handcrafted from natural wood and there’s no one wood that’s the same.

Value collection

Drift wood

We wanted a chandelier with character and style, and one that would match the antique marble table my grandaunt gave to us. But I didn’t want a gaudy looking chandelier either, so those crystal ones recommended by both our mothers weren’t a suitable option.

Standing lamps

The chandelier we picked was from Lightro’s Hygge collection, created using branches from the Dimocarpus tree, commonly known as the longan tree. This comes with 6 cotton shades and we decided on yellow LED lights to add to the ambient lighting.

Installing my new chandelier

Since our ceiling was high, we got the contractor to extend the chain so it would suspend the chandelier at the height we liked. I arrived from Beijing on Monday evening, just in time to monitor the little details such as spraying the chain black and making sure my chandelier looks perfect. Yes, I’m anal that way.

Chandelier from the Hygge collection

To further enhance our new chandelier, we also installed lights around it so it looks like a grand centrepiece. I’m very pleased with the outcome – and because each lamp/chandelier is different at Lightro, I like the idea of its exclusivity. Now, all we need is another organic element to further complement our chandelier. I’m thinking either a water feature or more tree lamps. :)

Our chandelier cost RM2,980 and there are a variety of lamps and chandeliers to choose from at Lightro. Also, Lightro has recently collaborated with Lazada, so you can order yours from there with free delivery!

Totally understand that feeling. We’re actually buying things bit by bit, so that it doesn’t impact our wallets too much.
