Shu Uemura: Eye Lined in Calligraph:Ink

I’m always on the hunt for the PERFECT eyeliner. It has to be opaque, affordable, long lasting, non-smudging and in the blackest possible black! Needless to say, that’s a tall order!

When the invite came from Shu Uemura to check out their reformulated Calligraph:Ink Liquid Liner, I jumped on board! I’ve heard only good things about this eyeliner and I was eager to give it a try.

On the day of the event, Pebble Paper was invited to use their liquid liner to calligraph motivational quotes on the arms of the guests!

Handwriting/calligraphy goals. Life goals.

If you don’t know your Chinese name, this master calligrapher will create one for you & have it written down using Shu Uemura’s Calligraph:Ink Liquid Liner.

If only my Chinese calligraphy was this beautiful.

Dotted around Segaris Art Centre, these adorable bears were holding on to a Calligraph:Ink liner and each of these bears had their own unique eyes! Their eyes were artfully drawn on using the liquid liner of the day and shows off perfectly the thin and thick lines you are able to create with Shu Uemura’s Calligraph:Ink liquid liner.

Bears so cute, I wanted to take them all home. Shoulda brought a bigger bag.

Eyeliner goals.

During the event, they had an on-the-spot demonstration of various eyeliner looks and styles you can create using Calligraph:Ink. They range from bold and edgy with tons of details, to clean and sleek lines. Each of these looks were masterfully created by the talented make-up artists of Shu Uemura.

Clean & sleek lines all the way to the brows.

Bold, thick lines with a play of space on the eyes.

While I am not that adventurous in my eyeliner game, I do appreciate a thick black liner. 🙂

Taking home the Calligraph:Ink, I realized that some setup was required. The ink and pen comes separately, giving you the freedom to purchase only the ink cartridge once you’ve used it all up. A pretty nifty idea.

Some assembly required.

I’ve never been good at assembling things, so was glad that the assembly was easy and there wasn’t any spilling of the ink. Score 1 for Wei Ni!

As I personally favour black liners over brown ones, I thought this would be a good opportunity to try something new!

The first stroke, I found that the brown liner isn’t as opaque as I would like it to be. After going through the lines a couple of times, I managed to reach the darkness & opaqueness of my liking.

The brush has individual bristles like a regular calligraphy pen that allows the ink to glide on smoothly, giving you the freedom to artfully create thick and thin lines.

Feeling like a master calligrapher with this eyeliner. 😀

The application is pretty smooth and as you can see, it does serve well as a fantastic calligraphy pen. If you choose to use it as that. 😛

All in all, I do wish that the brown shade is a little darker and more opaque, but perhaps I am just used to black eyeliner. When it comes to application, it is no doubt a smooth and effortless process.

I do find that if you tend to get sweaty and oily (blame it on our weather!), the liner does smudge a little bit. To prevent that, priming your eyes and applying powder with a setting spray after might help.
