5 Wearable Fall/Winter Fashion Trends 2015

Fashion trends can be a little tricky to take from runway to street but I find these 5 trends completely wearable on a day-to-day basis. Even in our hot, humid weather!

Granted, if you pick up any of these pieces in thicker & warmer fabrics you’re definitely set for a vacation somewhere cold. By going for any of these trends in lightweight cotton, linen or polyester you’re guaranteed a breezy time while still rocking this season’s most sought after trends!

#1 Car Wash Pleats

The fringe recently made a comeback in the form of bags, hems and shoes. This time in thicker cuts and warm fabrics, we introduce to you the Car Wash Pleats! They kinda remind me of a cross between fringe and pleats, but a tad edgier. The raw edge straight cut of these pleats show off a hint of leg and adds movement to your outfit.

Depending on the waistline and cut of these skirts and how high the slits go, they are pretty suitable for office wear when paired up with a formal blouse. For an edgy vibe, a crop top or bralette with an oversized moto jacket will always work. Alternatively, go bold by wearing a longer slip underneath your car wash pleated skirt and let a hint of the slip show under the slits.

When it comes to fabrics, choose one that you’re comfortable with. If you’re looking for a more preppy office vibe, a car wash pleat skirt in wool or a structured polyester. For something edgy, there’s always pleather. For nighttime, party-in-the-town vibe, a satin or silk finish skirt will do the trick! As these pleats are a thicker and more structured than the fringe, a heavier fabric would work well with these pleats.

#2 Plaid/Tartan

For Fall/Winter, you can never go wrong with prints in plaid or tartan. These versatile prints always remind me of cooler times or maybe I’m just obsessed with these colourful prints. These prints would also work well with the Car Wash Pleats trend above, as plaid tends to come in a thicker and sturdier fabric.

Whether you choose to pick up a plaid top or bottom, styling it is easy & effortless. I recently did a How-To on pairing up your favourite plaid or tartan shirt for both Men & Women, so check them out here: Plaid Please Men and Plaid Please Women.

If you’re not big on a plaid shirt or skirt, choose pieces with plaid elements. Such as a zipper hoodie with hidden plaid in the hood or pick up a plaid print pump, alternatively a plaid umbrella is both functional and stylish!

#3 Winter Floral

Floral inspired prints are more often than not reserved for Spring/Summer, but this season, Floral is back with a vengeance and in a more subdued hue compared to her Spring/Summer counterpart.

In darker shades and richer tones, these winter floral prints are really stunning to behold. With a dark & Secret Garden-esque vibe, these floral prints in shades of auburn, forest and burgundy are perfect for the Fall/Winter.

Timelessly dark and mysterious, I’m definitely in love with these new floral prints for winter! There are two ways you can go about wearing this trend, opt for a bright, happy shade of contrast against the dark floral prints or go all out in complimentary shades of black, winter greys and deep maroons.

#4 70’s High waistlines

With crop tops still being all the rage all around the globe, it only makes sense that our waistlines would get higher to balance out the crop. Because the waistband of these bottoms sit at the smallest part of your waist, they ensure a cinched-in and smaller looking waist while if you opt for a slightly flared pair of pants and a pair of pumps, this trend will make you look inches taller!

The way these higher waistlines are created, they’re perfect for creating that elusive hourglass figure. Feel free to layer a coat over your high waist flared pants and to further bring in the waist, pair a wide thick belt over it. The belt will add texture and a pop of colour.

For a more relaxed vibe, roll up the hems of your pants & show off a hint of ankle. When it comes to prints, take your pick with winter floral or plaid/tartan. Go bold and don’t be afraid to experiment.

#5 Turtlenecks

Turtlenecks are a Fall/Winter closet staple, as they ensure that your neck stays warm against the icy cold blasts of winter. This trend may be a little difficult to pull off due to Malaysia’s warm humid weather, but with mock turtlenecks and fabrics in lightweight cotton or linen, you’re able to wear your favourite turtlenecks without sweating buckets.

Pair up your favourite turtlenecks with a plaid printed car wash pleated skirt for the ultimate Fall/Winter vibe. Or if you’re heading somewhere cold, layer your turtleneck underneath summer dresses for an updated winter look.

Pick your turtlenecks in sold & basic colours, as this will give you the freedom to layer and pair up your turtlenecks effortlessly. To stay warm in winter, a chunky knitted oversized turtleneck top when paired up with a pair of leggings is perfect for cuddling up with a cup of cocoa in front of the heater.

So there you have it, this season’s 5 most wearable Fall/Winter fashion trends! My personal picks so far have gotta be the Car Wash Pleats and Winter Floral. I particularly love the car wash pleat because it’s something new that I haven’t quite experimented before. While the winter floral, adds a touch of dark mystery to almost any look.
