Because women can’t have all the fun! Plaid is an incredibly versatile print and works well with both men & women. While this look can so very easily turn cowboy with bellbottoms, boots & a cowboy hat, I wanted to create looks that are wearable outside of the rodeo. ☺
Here I showcase 3 different looks using 1 plaid black & white shirt. I decided that since the women’s Plaid Please post was so bold & colourful in red & blue, I chose a more neutral colour palette for the men.
#1 A hint of Floral
I personally know a lot of men who aren’t too keen on wearing floral. Whether they think it doesn’t look good on them or they’re unsure on how to style it up. So for this look I really wanted to show that you can wear floral pieces & that it’s pretty easy to mix prints as well.
I kept the shorts simple in a dark navy blue. I didn’t want to pick a black pair of shorts, as I wanted to introduce a little colour to this outfit. As the plaid shirt is in black & white, I chose a pair of dark wash floral shoes to tie in the entire outfit. The floral shoes offer a hint of colour to the otherwise monochromatic look. This look is perfect for days when you wanna look smart but still comfy & relaxed.
#2 Layer it up
This look is ideal for going to the movies or college, where it can get a little chilly indoors but once you step outside, it gets hot, hot, hot!
I opted to layer up this look with a lightweight long sleeve denim shirt. As both these shirts are pretty breezy & lightweight in nature, they won’t add a lot of heat to your look (well, alright you’ll look hot but not necessarily be sweating buckets) and yet is still warm enough for air-conditioned rooms.
A simple pair of white shorts to keep the look from looking to dark & dreary, while casual slip-on boat shoes completes this outfit perfectly.
#3 Man on the go
Being on the go helps if you have a large enough bag to put all your necessaries inside. Whether it’s a gym bag filled with your water bottle & work out gear or a bag for your laptop & documents, a sturdy sling bag is a must.
In this look, I chose to go monochromatic with a camel brown sling bag for a down-to-earth vibe. I kept the look very simple with just a dark grey pair of skinny jeans & matching shoes.
If you would prefer to add a pop of colour to this look, feel free to change the shoes to something bright, yellow, blue or red would work well with the brown bag & monochromatic clothes.
There you have it, 3 very simple look that you can quickly pull together in a flash! A classic well-fitting plaid shirt is a great essential to have in every man’s wardrobe. They are easily styled up for a formal/preppy occasion or kept casual with your favourite shorts (see our post: 1 Summer Shorts, 3 Summer Styles for style ideas).
