The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai

I used to think that a spa is just a spa. You make an appointment, go in, get your massage and then leave. But The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai is a holistic journey. The signature therapies and beauty treatments are a rejuvenation for the body and mind.

Butterfly Inspired Eco-Conscious Design

The Spa’s interior design boasts butterfly elements – a symbol of beauty and change – to represent the positive transformation one would undergo during their spa journey at Mandarin Oriental Pudong. All 13 treatment suites are also named “butterfly” in different world languages, including Mariposa (Spanish), Kupu-Kupu (Indonesian) and Borboleta (Portuguese).

All spa products used are certified organic and vegan

I enjoyed a one-hour signature massage, using certified organic and vegan products; The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai is the first luxury spa in the city to fully embrace eco sustainability. And it was one of the best massages I’ve gotten.

Massage room for one

The journey started with the customary cup of hot tea, followed by a scrub and bath, and then the massage. As each individual has different massage requirements, mine were tailored to my preference and body parts that needed tending to.

Prepping for my massage

Within a few minutes of assessment, my therapist could tell me where my aches were and what caused them. She quickly remedied these with deftly kneads. It was therapy and relaxation in one.

After the spa, the holistic journey continues…

Once the massage was done, I was ushered into a lounge overlooking the garden to further relac over some tea and fruits. And that marked the end if my rejuvenation journey at The Spa in Mandarin Oriental Pudong, Shanghai.
