Home Food Reviews Valentine’s Day at Cascade, Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur

We’ve reached that time of the year where love is in the air and the fairer sex is waiting to see what her other half has in mind for this coming Valentine’s Day celebration. Champagne, flowers, chocolates and jewellery are going to sell like hotcakes in the next week or so, I’m sure.

Marbled foie gras terrine with black truffle

While we’re expecting our one true love to shower us with affection (in some way or another, just admit it), there’s no one way to do dinner on Valentine’s Day. Some may opt to cook dinner at home while others want the traditional wine and dine at a restaurant.

Brined in red wine and sous vide for an hour

Cascade at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur is serving a 4-course Valentine’s Day menu which you can enjoy over champagne by the poolside. The marbled foie gras terrine with black truffle starter was a sumptuous treat that was brined in red wine and sous vide for an hour. Rich and dense (almost like butter) and incredibly tasty with the tangy apple beignet.

Shell fish bisque with lobster ravioli

Shell fish bisque was flavour packed, cooked for more than a day using lobster shell, vegetables, cream and butter. A little bit of brandy was added into the bisque, to enhance the sweetness of the lobster ravioli. The latter was made fresh and filled with lobster flakes and ricotta cheese.

Baked cod fish with ossetra caviar beurre blanc

The cod was almost too pretty to eat – salted, peppered and pan fried till the sides are crisp, and further baked in the oven. I found the portion pretty generous, while the fish was cooked just right and boasted a delicate sweetness. Ossetra caviar and beurre blanc were added for more flavour and a touch of luxury. Good stuff, this one.

The iced vanilla cupcake looked more like a pannacotta rather than a cupcake. This came with some vanilla macerated strawberries for that sweet finish. Of course, you can expect coffee or tea, together with some petit four (MO makes yummy ones btw) to mark the end of your meal.
