REVIEW: The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa

When we visited Langkawi in March, rif and I also enjoyed a 3 days 2 nights stay at The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa. This 5-star resort is located fairly close to Kuah town, but still secluded enough for a private getaway. Boasting a private beach front location, The Westin Langkawi has 202 guestrooms and suites, on top of 20 ultra luxury private ocean-view pool villas that offer a spectacular view of the Andaman Sea.

We stayed at the newly renovated superior room with soothing light tones, green technology LED lighting system and comprehensive amenities. For me, the best part about staying at The Westin Langkawi (and all Westin hotels for that matter) is the signature Westin Heavenly Bed – crisp cotton linens, plush pillows and duvets for the best slumber.

I liked the look and feel of our room – white, modern and spacious with tropical elements and detailing. On each side of the bed, you’ll find a soft toy monkey, which I now own and call Ollie. The rooms are designed to allow guests to stay connected, whilst enjoying the offerings of the resort.

Room service!

If it weren’t for the lure of the sun and pool, I would have snuggled inside the plush sheets, just watching TV and ordering room service throughout my stay. By the way, the nasi goreng kampung from the room service menu is pretty damn good. Just saying.

The Heavenly Shower isn’t called heavenly for nothing. It offers guests a spa-like shower experience, coupled with white tea products.

The Westin Langkawi boasts four F&B outlets – Seasonal Tastes, Breeze, Tide and Splash. Seasonal Tastes is an all-day dining restaurant with a lovely view of the sea. The breakfast buffet offers a good selection of local and international delights, and there’s even a ‘mamak’ station where you can custom order your favourite roti. And there’s bubbly too – the best way to start the morning, after coffee.

Breeze lounge

If you’re looking to relax over a glass of wine or cocktail, Breeze Lounge would be perfect for you. Settle into the plush couches, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the breeze! Wagyu steak is available for lunch and dinner, and it comes in a bento box. I like the bento box idea, but not so much my steak being cut into cubes. If you’re planning to order this, I suggest you inform the chef not to cut the steak. (edit: 17 June 2013 – the steaks are now served as a whole, on a plate.)

Tide serves Mediterranean cuisine and the restaurant overlooks the Andaman Sea. You can also find a selection of pastas, pizzas and fried items – perfect for a light bite while basking in the sun. I also had a mojito or two at Splash, when I was at the infinity pool. In Langkawi, it’s never too early to enjoy a cocktail.

The WestinWORKOUT Gym (24-hours) features a range of fitness equipments – treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bicycles and free weights – for the health and fitness buff. There is also a Wii room with three consoles and a large 6×6 foot screen, priced at RM30 per hour. Those who want an evening of relaxation should opt for the Heavenly Spa. It’s an amazing experience!

Travelers with young children can make use of the Westin Kids Club (for kids from 4-12 years of age). Here, kids can partake in various beach/nature activities (under supervision of course) or enjoy a range of board games and books.

As The Westin Langkawi is located fairly close (5 minutes away) to Kuah Town, guests can take a taxi to take them around. rif and I went to town, enjoyed some local offerings, took the cable car and did a fair bit of duty free shopping.

My entire stay was so enjoyable, I felt a little reluctant to check out. But since Langkawi is just a 1-hour flight away, I’m definitely coming back for a short break soon. Did you know that The Westin Langkawi offers late check out (3pm) on Sunday? It’s an effort of theirs to battle Monday blues. Genius right? Breakfast hours on Saturday and Sunday are extended till 3pm.

To get to The Westin Langkawi from the airport, you can hire a taxi for RM30 one way. Alternatively, opt to travel in style by using the resort’s airport transfer for RM80 per way. For more information about The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa, visit the official website here.
