Jien and I visited Bangkok in January this year and we stayed at Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road – a hotel that prides itself on local heritage and modernity. A window to get in touch with local culture. It was our home away from home for 4 days, and we got to recharge and refresh before making our way back to the kids in KL.
Our premium garden view room came with a corner balcony that showcased a view of the city’s skyline at one corner and lush nature at the other. Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road is a short walk away from the BTS Skytrain so getting to places is convenient and accessible, be it by train, by foot or by car.
It’s a five-star branded boutique hotel with contemporary design and tastefully furnished rooms, with an infinity-edge pool that offers some of the best views of the city. I reckon the pool is my favourite highlight of Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road.
Other highlights include four F&B dining options, a 24-hour gym and in-room massage to cater to the needs of guests. During our stay, Jien and I enjoyed a Thai high tea at Metro On Wireless (THB 990++ for two pax) – a locally-inspired spread of sweet and savoury treats. The structure of this high tea is different from what I know as you get to enjoy free-flow specialty drinks (non-alcoholic) on top of coffee and tea throughout the duration of the high tea.
I was pleased to see some of my Thai favourites like chor muang (steamed flower-shaped dumplings), kanom buang (crispy pancakes) and pan sib (fish filled puffs) in the line-up, on top of homemade scones with clotted cream. There’s also this riceberry “kanom krok” which I’ve never seen or tried before – tastes like a very decadent kuih bangkit, if I were to describe it.
Breakfast is served at Metro On Wireless as well, and the spread offers a decent variety of local and international options. Naturally being away from Malaysia, Jien and I went for the Thai options such as glass noodle soup, pad thai and moo ping. There’s also an order chit where you can place your orders for eggs, pancakes and waffles.
CHAR Restaurant sits on the 25th floor of Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road and the view is beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the view from CHAR Rooftop Bar, I would say. Chef de Cuisine Jaime “Jimmy” Rojas heads the kitchen for both CHAR Restaurant and Rooftop Bar and we opted for surprise menu (3-Courses) at THB 1,500++ per person.
It’s basically “omakase” style where guests can let the chef know their food preferences and dietary restrictions and the meal will be tailored accordingly. I wanted a seafood-based course meal while Jien asked for a meat-based course, and Jimmy took care of the rest.
Since Jimmy has travelled quite a fair bit and cut his teeth at a few Michelin-star restaurants in the world, his cooking style and flavour composition reflects it. My burrata salad was delicious, accented with pickled sweet onions and pistachio paste. I also liked what he did with the bok choy for my salmon fillet – charred and basted with chimichurri for a bit of zing.
Jien’s tenderloin was cooked perfect and the truffled mash potatoes gave off a Joel Robuchon vibe; I wasn’t wrong. Jimmy cut his teeth at one of Joel Robuchon’s restaurants prior to Bangkok. Cocktails at CHAR Rooftop Bar are creative but the view is the real show-stopper for us. Be sure to book ahead as those corner seats aren’t easy to come by especially on weekends.
I tried out Muay Thai for the first time, an activity by the hotel for its guests during the week of my arrival. It was fun and the instructor was good at guiding, so I thoroughly enjoyed myself. So much so I enrolled for Muay Thai lessons when I returned to KL!
I also tried out the new “Borrowed by Hotel Indigo” program where guests staying at the hotel get to request for unique outfits and items inspired by their neighbourhood story concept. Since the votes were equal for my Instagram poll, I did both the Gatsby and traditional Thai wear.
Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road offers in-room massage services where guests can contact the concierge to arrange for a massage of their choice – Thai or oil, foot or body. Jien and I did that on our last night as we wanted to stay in and relax before checking out the next day.
We also opted for room service after the massage as we had an early dinner prior. If you’re planning to try the room service menu, go for the burger or fish & chips. Of course, you can always head upstairs to CHAR Rooftop for some small bites but I was also feeling “like wagyu beef” post massage and didn’t want to move haha!
All in all, we had an enjoyable stay at Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road. Location is great and the hotel design is unique – the decor encapsulates quite a bit of history of Wireless Road with a modern touch.
