There’s been a lot of hype about Fierce Curry House in Bangsar, including two shortlists — Best Cheap Eats and Best Indian — in TimeOut KL Food Awards. The restaurant offers a range of Northern and Southern Indian cuisine and is known for their biryani, namely the lobster biryani. If I’m not mistaken, this needs to be ordered a day in advance.
It was a random decision to pop by for dinner recently. I got off work at close to 8pm and didn’t have time to prepare dinner for both rif and I. So we opted for something convenient – Fierce Curry House is located near the Bangsar LRT station and Wisma UOA.
We ordered a chicken and mutton biryani with a side of mutton varuval to share. Both arrived in a jiffy, each metal container sealed with pastry dough to lock the moisture in. As the name suggested, the spices were fierce. The rice was flavourful from the spices and fluffy from the steaming process. Between the mutton and chicken, the former packed more oomph and tasted better. The chicken biryani tasted pretty average to me.
The accompanying chicken curry was also quite decent – spicy, thick and aromatic. I asked for additional serving because I prefer my rice saucy. That said the mutton varuval was a tad tough for my liking.
The bill came up to about RM37 for the above. If I’m not mistaken, a portion of biryani cost RM15. Expect to pay more if you order lobster, king prawn or scallop biryani. I’ll come back for the mutton biryani and also to try the banana leaf rice. The latter seems to be pretty popular as well.
