Prime at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur serves possibly the best meats in town. I get my fix at least once a month and after trying the various steak places in town, Prime still remains my favourite. Not because the other places aren’t good – but because the chefs at Prime know just how I like my meat.
Prime’s latest addition – the Beef Wellington – was a sight to behold. 450gm of Long Grain Fed Black Angus, embellished with foie gras pate and mushroom duxelles, and wrapped in puff pastry. This was served along with butter poached and roasted Idaho potatoes, wilted spinach and two sauces – truffle and béarnaise.
Despite the juiciness of the beef, the puff pastry remained flaky right until the last bite. I probed the chef and he shared that the beef was sous vide for 90 minutes, seared to seal in the juices and baked with the puff pastry.
My previous experiences with Beef Wellington were forgettable, but Prime’s version was medium rare, fork tender and packed with flavour from the pate and mushroom duxelles. This tasted even better with the truffle and béarnaise sauce.
Prior to my beef wellington, I had the Triology – a popular starter at Prime. This time, it was a triology of seared sea scallops with Parmasen potato, pan-fried foie gras on toasted brioche and Prime composed salad. All were fabulous.
For dessert, I had my regular order of Illy coffee flavoured tiramisu while rif had the rich hot chocolate cake. I would order the chocolate cake again, but that’s only if I ever make it past the tiramisu. The latter was just…so…good. Remember to ask for more Sambuca and that really gives the tiramisu a lot of oomph. :D
The Beef Wellington cost RM388++ for 2 pax and is available for dinner throughout the month of September. For more information, check out the website here or call 03 2263 7434 to make a reservation.
