Home Food Reviews Meng Kee Char Siew

Half lean, half fat

Everyone has a favourite char siew place and for char siew lovers, it can spark a good debate on which place serves the best in Klang Valley.

My personal favourites are De Champion Duck and Toast & Roast, but many swear by Meng Kee Char Siew. And since my new office location is a 10-minute drive to Glenmarie, I decided to revisit this popular spot.

It’s best to get there before the lunch crowd does. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait for a table or share one with strangers. I ordered a plate of char siew and liver sausages, and beansprouts to share with rif.

The char siew was still as good as I remembered it to be – gloriously fatty with caramelized, lightly charred edges. Also not bad was the liver sausage; smoky sweet with little or no metallic taste.

Do yourself a favour and skip the beansprouts. This was hardly crunchy with too much sauce. The bill came up to RM24 for the two of us. Not cheap for such a small portion of meat, but it’s an occasional treat I guess.

Didn’t know they serve liver sausage. But then again, I’d probably not order it. Haha.

The liver sausage if not mistaken is made from minced meat only and no liver in it? I never have this in the restaurant, hubby will tapao for me if he happen to be nearby there.
