I was in Shah Alam for a job presentation when boss decided to treat my colleague and I for lunch. Initially, he wanted to take us to a Nyonya restaurant but he decided to treat us to a char siew lunch instead when we passed by Meng Kee Char Siew (a branch from the famous Meng Kee in Tengkat Tong Shin). :D
We’ve ordered a plate of char siew & Chinese sausage for 3 pax, half a roasted chicken and fried beansprouts.
The roasted chicken was juicy but I thought the sauce was a tad too salty. I think the chicken from the main branch is tastier. The beansprouts were not bad. Crunchy and juicy, I enjoyed the bits of salted fish they added into the vege.
The highlight of the meal was none other than the famous char siew. The char siew is marinated with their secret sauce before being barbequed in a container and served hot to patrons. Slightly sweetish with a glazed and caramelized exterior, the tender meat melts in your mouth. Absolutely delicious!
I also liked that it’s not too charred, just right with a hint of smoky flavour. The Chinese sausage was not bad. Chunky and slightly sweetish, it was very moreish, especially when eaten with chili sauce.
All in, lunch came up to RM39.10 inclusive of 3 drinks. Thank you boss! :)
Ambiance: 4/10
Price: 6.5/10
Food: 8.5/10
Verdict: SUPER SHIOK Char Siew. Enough said.
