The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, Phuket

by Bangsar Babe

Pool villas make one of my most memorable hotel stays — a luxury that rif and I indulge in every now and then. We would usually book them for birthdays and anniversaries; a form of relaxation and detachment from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives.

Our private pool, overlooking the Andaman Sea

The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa Phuket offers some of the more private pool villas I’ve stayed at, where the Sala Pool Villa boasts an amazing view of the Andaman Sea with ample of space for the comfort of two pax. It was home to rif and I for four days, of which we were reluctant to leave at the end of our vacation. The pool villa offers a private plunge pool, living area, wardrobe, toilet with bathtub and a bedroom with a view of the beach.

There are only a few villas like this and these are often snapped up towards the end of the year when the holidays begin. If you’re keen, do book ahead as the pool villa is really worth checking out — it is secluded yet close to hotel amenities, plus the staff are more than happy to assist whenever needed.

The hotel is large so you will need to get around using a buggy. Or if you fancy a good workout, you can always opt to walk from your room to the restaurants or beach. If you want a bit of night life, you can hop onto the hotel shuttle (please inquire at the concierge) which will take you to town where you can do a bit of shopping and explore the restaurants around the area.

For dining, Westin Phuket offers options from in-room service right down to restaurant dining. You can indulge in Italian by checking out Prego by the Beach, tuck into delicious Pan Asian cuisine at EEST or go for a mix of flavours at Seasonal Tastes. Whatever your choice may be, Westin Phuket has something for everyone.

Come evening, head over to MIX Lounge for their happy hour promotion and enjoy your tipple as you take in the panoramic view of the sunset at Siray Bay. If you’re staying at the villa, you get an option between breakfast at Seasonal Tastes or EEST, the latter is converted into a resort version of club lounge where bubbly is served with your food.

Heavenly Spa

The Heavenly Spa by Westin offers complete relaxation and rejuvenation, with seven spa rooms over three floors and an Ayurveda room. This spa features Pevonia and Boutique Thai products and I like how you’re able to do mini customisation of your spa and massage session – you get to pick your choice of massage oil, scrub and also the “message” stone which is to be placed underneath the massage bed. Appointments are recommended as the spa is popular among hotel guests, so do book ahead if you’re planning a session.

Personalised service, right down to the little details

As the property is large and well spread out, you wouldn’t feel as though the place is crowded even when it’s in full occupancy. The only time you will notice a crowd is during breakfast and then you’re pretty much on your own throughout the rest of the day. There is another pool next to the Westin WORKOUT® Fitness Studio and Splash Bar, which is quieter compared to the Horizon Pool so if you’re looking for some peaceful time at the pool, this is an option to consider at the resort.

rif and I liked how the resort is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Phuket town as it gave us time to relax and recharge from our daily lives. Also, we managed to do some sightseeing in Phuket – Big Buddha, Promthep Cape and Chalong Temple on our day out. We even managed to dine at this lovely Thai restaurant called Parlai, as recommended by the hotel staff.

We find Westin Phuket ideal for those looking for a getaway as the hotel amenities are sufficient to cater to the needs of the guests. If you’re looking to go out to town, there’s a shuttle service to take you there and for those looking to explore Phuket, you can always hire a driver (like we did) for THB3,000 for 5 hours.
