Rendez-Vous in Bangsar Park offers traditional French cuisine without putting a hole in the wallet, an attempt to change the perception of French food being pricey. While we drive past Bangsar Park fairly often, rif and I only tried it early this year when we were out on a date night. True to their claim, food at Rendez-Vous is fairly reasonable especially for Bangsar standard.
The decor is simple, with the shade of burgundy adding accent to the overall look and feel. Service was attentive though I wonder if it was because they weren’t a full house that night. The traditional French pate (RM19) was one of the best I’ve tried, with bits of pistachios and a side of caramelised onions. Also noteworthy was the salade mimosa (RM19), a pretty platter of mimosa-style eggs and assorted vegetables in vinaigrette dressing.
I opted for the mussels in white wine sauce (RM39) rather than the creamy or blue cheese version and it didn’t disappoint. The sauce was sweet from the onions and aromatic from the combination of parsley and white wine reduction. The mussels however, could have been sweeter and plumper but for such a price tag, I’m willing to let it slide.
rif’s roasted pork tenderloin (RM36) looked rather unassuming but beneath the blanket of mushroom sauce, the pork pieces were tender and flavourful from the addition of French cepes. Wines are affordable here – a bottle of house pouring (both red and white) starts from RM89.
Our waiter highly recommended the French apple tart (RM12), which we agreed was decent but the pastry needed work. It was a tad thick and dough-y. All in, our dining experience was quite pleasant and we wouldn’t mind returning to try more items from the menu. 🙂
Ambiance: 6.5/10
Price: 6/10
Food: 6.5/10 (non halal)
Verdict: Traditional French cuisine that is affordably priced. Reasonable wine prices too.
