Kee’s Creampuff: New Savoury Series

by Bangsar Babe

I’ve always been a fan of creampuff – a light pastry casing with creamy custard filling. This has been a personal favourite and I would treat myself to a piece or two whenever possible. Kee’s Creampuff because a regular spot since they opened another outlet in Bangsar Baru; much easier for me to access.

Tuna with corn and mushroom “soup”

They recently launched their savoury series which I sampled and enjoyed. Unlike the regular creampuffs, the savoury version uses gougere crust, made from mozzarella, parmesan and cheddar cheese. Of the six flavours I tried, my favourites were the mushroom “soup” and chicken pot pie.

Mushroom “Soup”

The former featured lightly toasted puff casing with tasty mushroom filling at the centre. I wouldn’t recommend sharing this because one isn’t enough. Same goes for the chicken pot pie, filled with savoury chunks of chicken.

Curried chicken with walnut

Mashed potato with beef strips was a clever combination. I liked that the potatoes weren’t finely mashed so you get a good mix of textures. A popular item would be the curried chicken with walnut – aromatic and mildly spicy with a nice crunch from the chopped walnuts. This paired particularly well with the cheese crust.

Tuna with corn

The other two flavours I tried were the tuna with corn and sour cream with chicken ham bits. The former was more conventional while the sour cream with chicken ham bits had a savoury-tangy twist. Very nice!

These savoury puffs are going at RM2.80 per piece, and you can opt for a set of two puffs with chips and a side salad with coffee or tea for RM12.80.

Chocolate cheesecake

The cakes are made in-house, by the man himself, Kenneth. Pretty impressive for a self-taught baker. I thought the red velvet and chocolate cheesecake were pretty decent. A good alternative if you want a different variety other than creampuffs.
