During work trips, meals are either a stressful or hurriedly affair. Nothing like those nice long lunches I dream of. You go the restaurant, you order really good food and you get to the crux of things – dollar and cents. At breakfast, I usually don’t have time to finish my coffee let alone head to the eggs station.
Which makes me truly value a leisurely meal with no agenda; or at least one that doesn’t involve talks about emerging markets or trade commodity. Like the lunch I had with rif at Jamu Bar when we stayed at Pangkor Laut Resort. The restaurant is located next to Spa Village and offers a lovely view of the ocean.
We shared two salads and tucked into the Pangkor Deluxe Bento, a beautiful fan platter of assorted sashimi, sushi and maki. The grilled tuna salad was delicious, as was the scallops with mushroom salad. The former had slices of seared tuna on a bed of seaweed, scallions and salmon roe while the latter was seasoned with light soy dressing to enhance the sweetness of the scallops.
The bento was large enough for 3 pax, I reckon. Ingredients were fairly fresh and I loved the experience of dining by the sea with cool breeze. Not something you get in the concrete jungle. The grilled unagi and house special udon were decent but both didn’t particularly excite me.
One of the few lunches I truly enjoyed because it was relaxed. Plus I had an amazing spa session before that so it definitely helped with the mood!
