Not everybody appreciates steak tartare but I for one, enjoy it. Apart from pate, steak tartare is another item I cannot resist ordering whenever I spot one on the menu. One of my favourite places for steak tartare is The Press Room in Bangsar Shopping Centre and I would have it with a glass of white. Yes, I do love to indulge every now and then.

When I spotted steak tartare as a starter option in The Press Room’s Christmas Menu, I ordered it immediately. Finely chopped seasoned raw beef with capers and onions, moulded into a disc and topped with yolk for richness. Tres delicious!

The Press Room Prawn Cocktail
If tartare isn’t your thing, you can also opt for prawn cocktail ala The Press Room or duck rillettes & chicken liver pate. The prawn cocktail here comes in a bowl with fresh greens and house island dressing, and a generous portion too.
Roast Turkey
For mains, I tried the roast turkey and lemon sole – both tasty in their own way. Of all the turkeys I tried, this was my favourite. The turkey leg was fairly tender and still juicy within, served with chestnut stuffing and sweet potato mash.
Lemon Sole
But it was the lemon sole with browned butter (Beurre Noir) that left an impression. The fish was beautifully cooked – sweet, flaky and crisp around the edges, and served with just cooked roasted potatoes and capers.

Christmas Pudding
I had the chocolate volcano and Christmas pudding for dessert – the former was nice and molten at the centre, and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I’m not a big fan of Christmas puddings unless it’s spotted dick pudding, so I didn’t fancy the pudding as much.
Latte
Coffee came with Spanish turrones, marking the end of the set meal. The Christmas menu is available from Dec 1st to 24th and there are three sets of different price tiers – RM50++, RM65++ and RM85++. There is also a more elaborate menu for Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas Day lunch, going at RM120++ per set.

Verdict: I like the set menu options here, and The Press Room still remains my favourite place for steak tartare.
