Beef noodles

rif seems to have all the luck in the world when it comes to food. His office location allows him to sample all the good hawker food in KL, while I’m stuck with cafeteria food at my new office. This beef noodles place is recommended by a colleague and rif insisted it was better than the beef noodles place in Tengkat Tong Shin.

The son at work

We got there a few minutes before noon, so the uncle and his son paid full attention to us. I heard the uncle gets pretty grumpy during peak hours. Luckily, he was nothing but nice and even placed a table fan in front of me to cool me down from the afternoon heat. ;)

Springy and tasty noodles

I ordered a small bowl of dry beef noodles (RM6) with all the works – tripe, beef balls and beef slices. The uncle suggested the egg noodle and it was tastier than the usual wantan mee. It was cooked just right, and came with savoury minced beef and spring onion garnish.

Beef soup

The accompanying soup was clearer than most of the beef noodle soups I’ve tried but more flavourful and filled with bits of preserved vegetables. It was so good, I asked the uncle for a refill. He happily obliged.

Chilli sauce that packs a punch

Tripe, sliced beef and beef ball

I especially liked the chilli sauce provided – absolutely wicked when eaten with the tripe slices. The beef balls were fairly large and crunchy, while the beef slices were cooked till tender. Despite being under a large tree, the place is quite humid. I don’t know if I’ll survive a lunch session my work clothes, but in shorts and a tank top…anytime! :D

Ambiance: 4.5/10
Price: 5.5/10
Food: 7/10 (non halal)
Verdict: The beef noodles are one of the better ones I’ve tried in KL. If only they’re open for supper…

I should have ordered a large bowl. A small one was hardly enough! :(
