Las Vacas might not have won the Best Steakhouse for Timeout KL Food Awards, but if there is a best lamb burger award, the title goes deservedly to this restaurant-butchery. I was told the burgers are quite good and I’ve been ordering one since my first try.
rif and I ordered the lamb burger and another 350gm beef burger at the latest Las Vacas outlet in Yap Kwan Seng. You should have seen the look on that waiter’s face when I asked for the 350gm patty.
And he reluctantly wrote down the order, after a failed attempt to get me to settle for the 150gm patty. Clearly, he had no idea how insignificant a 350gm burger is to me, next to 2kg of ribeye.
Anyway, the beef burger was not bad, but it was the lamb burger that knocked my socks off. This is the best lamb burger I’ve eaten so far. The patty is juicy, nicely seasoned and still had the lamb flavour. Many lamb patties are over seasoned to kill off the gamey taste, but at Las Vacas, the balance was perfect. I also liked how they managed to grill the patty till medium, and it was juicy all over.
The beef burger as just as well grilled as the lamb version, but the patty was less interesting. Each 350gm burger (RM35) came with a sunny side up on top and a side of chips. While the sides were average, I’d still go back for the lamb burger. I’ve eaten the lamb burger at this outlet and also the Mon’t Kiara outlet. Both were as good.
If you’re at Las Vacas and want something other than steak, give the lamb burger a try. I’m quite keen on trying the lamb burger with 500gm patty next. Who wants a chow down? #loserpays :D
