Every now and then, I would crave a good roast duck meal and one of my favourite places for duck happens to be all the way in Kepong. Sunrise is also a good option but the queue can be maddening so I tend to opt out of going there.
An acquaintance mentioned Yummy Duck in Kuchai Lama serves pretty decent roast duck so then the craving came, I paid them a visit. Parking is horrendous here, especially on a weekday lunch. On weekends, it’s still chaotic but chances of finding a parking spot is better.
Jien and I shared half a roast duck and a bowl of spicy sour vegetable stew (choy keok). We had an option of including char siew and siew yuk in our meal but I only had eyes for duck that afternoon. Will have to revisit them again to try the char siew, siew yuk and wantan mee.
The roast duck was not bad – crisp enough skin and the meat was well marinated. It was tender and juicy, even around the breast area. This roast duck has a herbal flavour, similar to the one from De’ Champion Duck. That said, I still like the latter better.
I didn’t care much for the spicy sour vegetable stew as this was slightly on the sweet side. I like my vegetable stew spicy and sour with little sweetness. Yummy Duck’s version was also quite thick, so if you’re like me and require plenty of ‘soup drinking’, you won’t find this as satisfying.
I can’t remember exactly how much we paid for lunch, but it was between the range of RM50-60 for all the above. While the roast duck isn’t the best I’ve eaten, it is still worth checking out if you’re within the vicinity. I’ll be returning for Yummy Duck’s other specialties real soon. 🙂
