I was introduced to this beauty collagen hot pot called “ BIJIN NABE ” by Tsukada Nojo when I was in Singapore earlier this year where the signature Golden Collagen chicken stock is highly raved about. Tsukada Nojo in Kyushu is known for producing organic chicken of best quality in a safe and natural environment, and Bijin Nabe’s chicken stock is said to be the key to good skin and health.
Expect a long queue during peak hours; we were there at 6.30pm but still had to wait for 30 minutes before we got our table. The stock is stewed for more than 8 hours until the chicken bones are fully dissolved, and it is served in a pudding-like form. The heat from the pot will eventually turn the stock into liquid form.
It costs SGD25 per pax and you get items like prawns, chicken and fresh vegetables to go with your collagen hotpot. Portion is more than sufficient but if you’re looking to indulge, Bijin Nabe also offers side dishes like chicken namban, salads and rice balls. My friends and I shared a portion of fries and chicken namban – both decent enough snacks while waiting for our collagen hotpot to be ready.
The collagen stock was good stuff. Thick, creamy and packed with flavour. I expected it to be cloying given the texture but it wasn’t the case; it was savoury yet sweet from the natural flavours of the chicken.
I’m not sure if eating this often would improve one’s skin condition, but I do know that eating this often will make my tummy very happy. Expect to pay between SGD30-50 per head, depending on the items you order.
There are four Bijin Nabe branches in Singapore and I was told the queue is less chaotic at Chinatown Point.
