JWC The Factory 30, Johor Bahru

by Bangsar Babe

The café scene in JB is more developed that I expected it to be with a lot of the customer base coming from our neighbouring country. When Jien and I were in the city a couple of months back, we checked out JWC (short for Just Want Coffee), The Factory 30 – said to be one of the best coffee spots in JB. This coffee place is located inside a former factory in an industrial area and you’ll need to drive past car workshops and large factories and warehouses before getting to your destination.

Alas, our luck ran out as we were told they would be closed from 4.30pm onwards for an event that evening. We could either return the next day (which wasn’t possible as we were leaving JB) or stay for just 30 minutes and gulp our coffee within that time frame. We opted for the latter and were ushered to an available seat upstairs. The décor is fashioned to look like a warehouse, giving you that hip, industrial feel.

One can expect first class coffee art here ;)

We weren’t able to order any food as the kitchen was closed in preparation for the event, so we stuck with just coffee. I ordered a flat white (RM10) and Jien opted for one of their house specials, Classic Cold Brew (RM16). Service was all over the place when we were there – the staff were seen running around delivering orders and some failed to notice missing orders from a few tables. I reckon it’s because the place was packed but despite that, service needs work.

My coffee was pretty decent but Jien’s classic cold latte was good stuff. It was creamy, thick and packed with coffee flavour. This one has plenty of caffeine kick as I was feeling quite energetic after a few sips. I was told they do a good tiramisu here so that’s on my list to try when I’m in JB again. If you’re looking for a hangout place that serves good coffee in JB, this is it. Take note on the service and crowd on weekends though.

This is a place you will need to drive to access to as JWC is about 25-30 minutes away from the main café spots along Jalan Dholby. Uber/Grab might get you there easily but I’m not sure if you’re able to get a ride back after. Your risk to take. ;)
