As the month of Ramadan approaches, restaurants and hotels are gearing up to ensure they deliver the best ‘buka puasa’ spread one can ask for. Signature masakan kampung dishes, heirloom recipes and old favourites all come out to play – making it difficult for diners to stop at just one or two portions. If you’re planning to eat out with family, friends or colleagues this bulan Ramadan, here are two options I personally enjoyed.
Barakat & Syukur Buffet Dinner at The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur attempts something different from the rest – the buka puasa spread boasts two customised signature St. Regis carts to add glamour and elegance to the event. Food stations are lined up at The Astor Room, offering the best of everything from slow-roasted Australian spring lamb (a signature of Chef Halim) to a juice bar with an extensive selection of fruits and vegetables.
I particularly enjoyed the mango cart comprising a wide selection of mangos from various parts of the world. The crispy golden Scottish egg was too delicious to stop at just one. I helped myself to two because I couldn’t get enough of the runny yolk at the centre and crisp exterior, served with garlic aioli and asparagus.
You also get a range of dates (kurma) to sample, on top of the many mouth-watering pastries, sweet treats and fresh off the cart waffles with ice cream. For RM220nett per person, you still get your money’s worth (somewhat) because the food is more of quality than quantity.
Barakat & Syukur is available at The Astor Room from 1st June till 20th June 2017 between 6.30pm till 10pm.

Serambi Juadah Warisan Desa at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur
The F&B team at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur is going all out to ensure their spread of traditional Malaysian favourites does not disappoint. Chef Budiman leads the kitchen team to showcase an array of buka puasa treats, including his mother’s acar ikan masin, kuah lemak kepiting (you have to try this!) and rendang merah utara.
Apart from the buka puasa selection, Latest Recipe still retains its popular favourites like the pasta station, Japanese corner and their popular Indian food selection. Roasted lamb is also a feature at Latest Recipe – marinated for 10 hours with spices and cooked till tender perfection.
Latest Recipe’s buka puasa buffet (RM180 nett per adult and RM90 nett per child) is available from 27th May till 24th June, and comes with free flow date juice, sirap bandung, sugar cane juice, ice lemon tea and hot teh tarik. Early bird vouchers are available at RM130 nett (adult) and RM65 nett (child) till 20th May 2017.
