I have a confession – I’m a fried chicken addict. There’s just something about the crispy skin and flesh that glistens in its own juice and oil that makes me drool in excitement. While Lim Fried Chicken makes the cut for one of the tastiest fried chickens in town, there’s another stall that serves it better. ;)
The humble chap fan stall that occupies the same spot that Lim Fried Chicken formerly operated at and they open from late morning till 2.30pm. I’ve eaten here several times and truth be told, I find the fried chicken tastier and more aromatic compared to the already delicious version at Lim Fried Chicken.
This chap fan stall fries its chicken fresh and the meat comes with a spiced marinade and curry leaves, which gives it a delicious scent. Also, I like how the seasoning adds flavour to the skin as it complements the juicy texture of the chicken meat. Lim’s version focuses more on the flavour and freshness of the chicken but this one is just as fresh and the skin, adequately spiced to give it more oomph.
You can opt to have your fried chicken on its own or with the chap fan selection. The selection is pretty standard but the fried chicken makes up for everything. A whole leg cost RM6 which is fairly reasonable considering its size and I like how they are very consistent with the frying – the chicken is always cooked just right.
Try this if you’re in the area and even if you’re not, I suggest you make a trip to Wong Soon Kee soon especially if you’re a fried chicken lover. :D
Ambiance: 5.5/10
Price: 6.5/10
Food: 7.5/10 (non halal)
Verdict: This fried chicken is slightly tastier than Lim’s Fried Chicken. There’s a bit more flavour in the skin.
