Plates, Lebuh Muntri Penang

by Bangsar Babe

“Breakfast, brunch and everything in between” – how aptly this describes Plates at Lebuh Muntri in Penang. Plates occupy the front portion of the space that also houses Inch; due to the space and large windows, lighting during the day is terrific. Especially if you’re big on photography and capturing the details in everything you see.

Spacious interior and great lighting

The menu is straightforward, with key breakfast items like eggs benedict, pancakes, French toast and big breakfast. Big eaters can opt for one of the pastas or burger. I visited Plate on a weekend, where there was a breakfast/brunch special – free flow bubbly with any breakfast item at RM80 per pax.

Bubbly brunches happen to be one of my favourite weekend activities!

I don’t know about you but I love the idea of bubbly and breakfast on a weekend. It’s a great way to unwind and prepare myself for what is to come on Monday … office drama and crisis. And when you have a group of friends to drink with you, even better!

If only brunches were this reasonable in KL…

The yolk could have been runnier…

The Eggs Benedict (RM19) comprises two poached egg on English muffin, topped with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce. A pretty sight and also pleasant to eat, especially when you’re having bubbly with that.

Plates Brekkie

If you’re conventional, try the Plates Brekkie (RM24) – their version of big breakfast which comes with toast, chicken sausage, tomatoes, hash brown, kidney beans, button mushrooms and poached eggs. I find the Pancakes (RM16) much more exciting as this comes with apple compote, fresh strawberries, blueberries, maple syrup, crumble and mascarpone cream.

Chicken Spinach Pasta

The Chicken Spinach Pasta (RM18) is quite commendable, featuring tagliatelle with spinach, cream sauce, chicken, onions and cherry tomato. I like how the onions and tomatoes give it a zing, to balance off the creamy base.

Bubbly brunch at Plates

Cava is the main serving bubbly for the breakfast/brunch promo, which starts from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays and 9am to 3pm on Sundays. If only I lived in Penang…
