Yellow Brick Road, Jalan Batai

by Bangsar Babe

Yellow Brick Road in Jalan Batai is crowded on a Sunday – a casual spot that has become quite a hit since they opened early this year. I’ve heard good things about this café and even more positive things about the pancakes at Wicked Pancake Parlour, run by the same folks behind Yellow Brick Road.

Coffee counter

Service was efficient but missing the touch of warmth; or at least that was what I felt when I requested for a table from one of the staff. The space is spacious and brightly lit, with elements of yellow in the décor. It is a great place to have a cuppa and judging from the lively crowd, they feel so too. It was a tad difficult to carry out conversations because I couldn’t hear myself at times.

Love the way they serve tea here

Coffee is pretty noteworthy – rif’s order of Iced Long Black (RM9) was strong, but not bitter, with a fruity sweetness at the finish. I had the Rose & Lemongrass Tea (RM10) and it came in a pretty setup of floral cup and saucer. The only thing missing in the picture is a scone hahaha!

Chocoholics Anonymous

You’re allowed to order the pancakes at Wicked which we did; the Chocoholics Anonymous (RM26), featuring chocolate pancakes with chocolate shavings, caramelised beef bacon, pistachios, berries, nutella sauce and chocolate ice cream. I thought it was decent, but I didn’t care for the crazy drizzles of coulis on the surface.

Decent stuff, but I didn’t care much for the crazy drizzles

This was salty-sweet and chocolate-y, a good option for those who love savoury touches in their dessert. The person across us had the normal pancakes with maple syrup and I thought that looked more appealing. Will order that when I’m there next.

Muesli Cheese Cake

A wee bit small, the slice

We shared a Muesli Cheese Cake (RM12) that came with bits of popcorn on top. Nice touch to the cake, but the popcorn was chewy from being left in the fridge and the muesli was a tad coarse. Not my ideal combination but this is a bestseller at Yellow Brick Road. I found the slice a tad small too, for the price.

Al fresco area

I’ve yet to try the mains but from the description, I see potential. Will have to come back for another session and hopefully, I wouldn’t have to wait to get a table. 🙂
