Then I think of Christmas feasting, I envision a banquet of roast turkey, assorted pies, potatoes and steamed pudding – something I credit to reading Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl during my childhood. I wanted the Christmas I read in story books so much that my parents relented and we now get a Christmas feast each year.
While there’s no steamed pudding, I do appreciate the chocolate log my grandaunt would send over every year and the many boxes of mince pies gifted by my mother’s friends. We would busy ourselves in the kitchen assembling salads, grilling sausages and prepping the mushroom soup. The turkey would arrive at 6.30pm and by 7pm, our table would somewhat resemble the Christmas feast I read about. Only difference is, it is 30 degrees here and mulled wine would be suicide.
This year, I had the privilege of getting a sneak preview of what’s in store this Christmas for BIG’s takeaway menu, aptly named The BIG Feast. And a feast it was. There was roast turkey with stuffing, beef tenderloin, leg of lamb, lasagne, mac & cheese, assorted pies and quiches, accompanied with potato Dauphinois, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts and garlic roasted pumpkin.
Desserts were also sight to behold – from mince pies, log cakes, bread and butter pudding, triffle, pavlova, cheesecake and my favourite, sticky date pudding. My other half went gaga over desserts, while I was attempting to decorate a gingerbread house. That didn’t turn out too good because rif said it looked like a house of horror. 🙁
If you’re keen on ordering this Christmas feast, click here for the Christmas takeaway menu. I’m probably going to get a few more goodies to add to my Christmas dinner at home. Especially the chicken liver pate – best I’ve tried thus far!
The BIG Takeaway Christmas Menu is available until 31 December 2014. For inquiries or to place an order, contact 03-6209 2200 (weekdays between 9am to 6pm). Or visit their website site here.
