A colleague recommended the claypot crabs with glass noodles at Rasa Lain, when rif and I stopped for two nights in Ipoh during our little roadtrip in January this year. Alas, Rasa Lain was not open that day so we tried Different Taste instead.
Apparently, there are three restaurants serving claypot crabs with glass noodles in Bercham – Rasa Lain, Different Taste and Same Taste. Weird choices of name but as long as the food is good, I’m not bothered.
Different Taste’s claypot crab with glass noodles (RM63) was quite good and given how it was pouring that night, it was the ideal dish to have. The crab was fresh and the roe gave the broth a rich colour and flavour. Underneath the noodles were a few slivers of bacon, meant to enhance the taste of the dish. I ate this with chilli padi for extra oomph. Good stuff!
We also tried the handmade fishballs (RM6.60 for 6 pieces), prepared using ikan parang and lightly seasoned. This was served with just a drizzle of soy sauce and sesame oil. The pandan chicken (RM9) was nothing to shout about. While the meat was well seasoned, I found it a tad dry.
I’m not sure how this fares among the three restaurants, but I rather enjoyed the glass noodles. 🙂
