A romantic evening for two overlooking the panoramic view in Putrajaya does sound tempting, and Shangri-La Putrajaya is pairing such a view with a 4-course dinner at Azur this coming Valentine’s Day. I was extended an invitation to sample the menu which will be priced at RM200nett per person on the actual day.
That night, I tucked into an appetizer of grilled sea scallops and clear venison soup with angel hair pasta and duck ragout, before moving on to the main course – a choice of beef tenderloin or salmon fillet. Scallops were fresh and plump, nicely seared and embellished with roe and olives. They could do without that bit of foam, as it did little to add flavour to the scallops.
I enjoyed the venison soup, which came flavour packed despite its clear appearance. The duck ragout was chunky and scented with truffle, but the pasta was a tad overcooked for my liking. The salmon and tenderloin also suffered the same fate so we sent them back to the kitchen.
Second time around, the mains tasted much better. The beef was cooked to medium doneness and juicy throughout, while my salmon was flaky, smooth and delicious. Since this was a tasting session, feedback was given to the kitchen team for them to iron out the kinks. Hopefully, they will do better come 14th February. 🙂
Dessert was tiramisu with chestnut mousse, served with a choice of coffee or tea. The set menu also includes soft drinks and juices, so let the waiter know your preference. For reservations and enquiries, call 03-8887 8834.
