I’ve been itching to check out Rock Bar for a while, and managed to squeeze time to do so when I was in Bali last month. The bar sits on natural rocks above the Indian Ocean and boasts a stunning view of the sunset and horizon.
It’s best to call ahead and make a reservation. I’m glad I managed to get one of the best tables at the edge of the cliff so I got to enjoy the view with no human interference.
Rock Bar carries a selection of premium wines and its cocktail list includes more than 40 classic and contemporary creations, expertly crafted by Cocktail Maestro Laval Lim-Hon.
I was told he has mixed cocktails for celebrities and royalties such as Prince Rainer and Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, Liza Minelli and Clint Eastwood. So I guess the IDR150,000 price tag per cocktail makes sense. 😉 Besides, I generally pay that much for cocktails at hotels (between RM35-50) so this wasn’t an issue.
I had Rock My World, a cocktail that, as its name suggest, rocked. Strong, yet refreshing; like a pretty girl with spunk. Mojito is said to be one of the must-try at Rock Bar and rightly so. While mojito requires (mostly) similar ingredients in general, this one was different. Probably the maestro’s touch.
There is a dresscode to be observed here – smart casual, so don’t go wearing shorts and slippers. You won’t be allowed in. Rock Bar also serves tapas and light nibbles. I had edamame (IDR55,000) with cepes olive oil and crushed bedugul pepper.
The sunset from where I sat was so beautiful, that I was in awe. I’m so coming back to this spot when I’m in Bali next!
