Fresh bread to start

The River Grill is one of the four F&B outlets at Casa del Rio Melaka, and offers guests a cosy dining experience with grilled seafood, meats and classic favourites on the menu. Service was friendly and attentive, but some need more training to converse with international guests better.

Fresh US Scallop Ceviche

We started with the Fresh US Scallop Ceviche (RM32) and Marinated Prawn Salad (RM22); both comprised fresh seafood but the salad stood out much more. The latter featured large, succulent prawns, tossed with green papaya, mango, coconut, lemongrass, mint and chilli for that extra oomph.

Homemade Mushroom Soup

I also had the Homemade Mushroom Soup (RM18), made with brown mushrooms and topped with porcini oil. This was fairly decent and went well with bread. Although I would have liked a wee bit more porcini oil. :)

Mushroom Risotto

I enjoyed the Mushroom Risotto (RM32), which took a little longer than expected to arrive. This hearty plate of Arborio rice and mushroom was rich in flavour and aromatic from the olive oil and parmesan cheese. Good stuff!

Australian Wagyu Tenderloin

For our mains, the Australian Wagyu Tenderloin (RM180 – 200gms) stood out. The meat was served medium, as per our request, and boasted a marble score 7. Juicy, tender and flavourful, the pesto sauce wasn’t necessary as the beef was already tasty on its own.

Juicy!

Pan Seared Sea Bass Fillet

The Pan Seared Sea Bass Fillet (RM40) was perfectly crisp on top and succulent at the centre. I liked the simplicity of this dish as it allowed the natural flavour of the fish to stand out.

Rich chocolate cake

Dessert was a mango cheesecake and chocolate cake, marking a sweet end to our meal. I liked that the ingredients are fresh and most dishes, straightforward. Sometimes, I feel we could all do with a little less ostentation in life. And on our plates. ;)
