I’ve always been a fan of yong tau fu and my father in-law mentioned about this place called Restoran Yee Wat that serves decent yong tau fu in Melaka. The restaurant gets pretty packed during lunch hours, so it’s best to get there before 1pm.
Besides yong tau fu, they also serve Nyonya laksa (RM4 – small, RM5.80 – large) and tom yam noodles (RM4 – small, RM5.80 – large). The former was nothing compared to the version from Baba Low, but decent enough to satisfy my Nyonya laksa craving.
I thought the curry lacked spices so it didn’t have enough oomph. The tom yam wasn’t much to shout about either, but it went well with yong tau fu.
I was told they make their own fish paste here, using ikan parang, and it was quite decent. I liked the slightly meaty texture of the paste and it wasn’t overly fishy. I wouldn’t say this place is a must-try, but if you’re craving yong tau fu and happen to be in Melaka, it’s worth a visit.
