Home Food Reviews Leaf Dining @ Solaris Mon’t Kiara

I’ve been eating quite a bit of Indian food, since I’m featuring Indian cuisine for the November issue of my FACES column. Here’s another discovery I made (ok, I didn’t really discover this. rif told me about it) in Solaris Mon’t Kiara – Leaf Dining. I actually wanted to eat at Little Korea, but he persuaded me to try the briyani here.I’m glad he did – I enjoyed the food. Mutton briyani (RM12) was good value for money. It was a pretty generous portion with abundant chunks of lamb in a thick curry sauce. For small eaters, I would recommend sharing this. The rice was more intensely flavoured compared to the other briyani versions I’ve eaten. Correct me if I’m wrong…but I think Southern Indian food uses a lot more spices and is less creamy compared to Northern Indian food. The pickled onions yogurt was tangy and refreshing.rif ordered the vegetarian banana leaf thali set meal (RM5.50) and a piece of fried chicken (RM5). The presentation was a lot better, and it was tastier than the two banana leaf rice shops in Bangsar Baru. We both liked the fish curry — it was thick, fiery and well-infused with spices. The fried chicken was reputed to be good (according to rif and a friend). It was nicely marinated and freshly fried, but the portion was so small! I could easily eat two.

Crispy papadams
Frothy teh tarik

Service was warm and friendly. The waiters were smiling all the time and they happily gave me more curry to go with my briyani. I liked that the place had air-conditioning, so I didn’t walk out sweating. Prices are quite affordable, considering the large portions and location.
Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 6/10
Food: 6.5/10 (pork-free)
Verdict: The food here are mostly spicy and tummy warming.

looks scarily spicy! i used to eat indian food more often, but my digestive system seems to have weakened with age, so i mainly stick to safe, mild food now. but the sight of those curry-flooded biryani sure looks mouthwatering :D

Wow… another place to explore in Solaris… shouldn't be hard to find considering that this area is relatively small. I miss BLR… the last one that I had was at Nirvana Bangsar.. 6 months ago

Cool! That's surprising reasonable pricing considering the location… :)

Looks good to me! Though I would ask to be excused from the dainty steel side veg containers and have them piled on my banana leaf instead! It's not banana leaf if it's not messy!

min – True that. But I kinda like the presentation!

J – Yup, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the price list. :)

leo – I don't fancy eating at Nirvana…because it's often crowded and they're quite stingy with the 'liu'.

Sean – You talk as though you're old. Please la…you party harder than I do! =P

BB, I went there for dinner with my gf after reading your review. We were both disappointed with the taste and food quality of mutton briyani, the banana leaf set and as well as the overall pricing.

If you really want a way tastier(and cheaper) banana leaf experience, I very highly recommend Kortumalai Pillayar banana leaf restaurant in Brickfields, near to KL Sentral. We go there like 3 times a month.
