The Orchid, Royal Lake Club

Last Wednesday, I attended Royal Lake Club’s member introduction night at The Orchid. Being a new Lady Member, I was not given the option to refuse attendance. Dinner cost RM 80 per person which I had to bear for myself, my dad (the proposer) and his friend (my seconder).We started off with a seafood salad. Served in a cocktail glass, there were three plump shrimps on top of a bed of greens and a thin slice of smoked salmon. It would have been a decent dish if it wasn’t for the accompanying tartar sauce. The excessive amount of sauce overpowered the shrimps so all I tasted was tartar.Complimentary bread with salted butter was served soon after with mushroom soup. The bread was standard but the soup was an utter disaster. Watered down, it tasted as though it came from the can. It was so awful that even the club president gave it two thumbs down.The interval between the soup and main course was quite long. About 30mins, by which I had helped myself to another 2 bread rolls. Yes…shame on me. We were given the choice of Grilled Sirloin Steak or Grilled Salmon Steak. Obviously, I chose the former.The steak was forgettable. About the size of my palm, it was served with potato wedges and vegetables. “I can make better steak than this”, I said between sips of average-tasting chardonnay. Dad passed half of his steak over to me to finish so I guess he thought it was too dreadful to eat. I played the garbage bin since the portion was so small.Dessert was a run off the mill bread & butter pudding. Topped with custard, I thought it was too sweet. Again, dad dumped half of his to me as he had to watch his sugar intake. Coffee was served soon after. After the night ended, I predicted that Dad would be scampering around the kitchen at 1 or 2am looking for food. I was right. :p

Verdict: Lousy food, poor service. Staff were not attentive enough. Needless to say, I won’t be spending my hard earned money here. RM 240 for that such poor quality food is simply ridiculous.
