Indulgence Restaurant is one of the few fine dining options available in Ipoh (if not the only), housed in a colonial mansion in Ipoh. The menu features Modern European fare and seasonal offerings displayed on a chalkboard across the room.
Décor is minimal and the ambiance felt like a casual café rather than a fine dining establishment. Expect Indulgence to get quite noisy during certain times as many bring their young children to dine. We started with some Kumamoto Oysters (RM12.80 each) and also half a dozen of cheese baked and garlic crusted oysters. These were relatively fresh and tasted great with champagne.
For my main course, I opted for one of the specials listed on the chalkboard that night – Ink Linguine Gorgonzola with Fresh Figs (RM56++). This was pretty good but a bit steep, especially for Ipoh. My pasta was cooked al dente and generously coated in rich, pungent gravy. The sweetness of the figs helped offset the strong nature of the pasta.
rif tried the Stoke (RM32), Indulgence’s version of chicken roulade stuffed with yellow pimiento and pumpkin. This was served with some orange reduction and a side of coriander onion salad. Decent, but I liked my dish better.
We ended the night with a coffee each – a latte for me and for rif, cappuccino. I expected service to be poor that night but it wasn’t particularly awful, nor was it good. Manage your expectations and you’ll be just fine.
Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 5.5/10
Food: 6/10 (pork free)
Verdict: Food was alright but I expected the ambiance to be better.
