Cat In The Box, Empire Damansara

I first found out about Cat In The Box in Empire Damansara when some Instagram photos popped up on my newsfeed. The place looked extremely photogenic – perfect setup for coffee, conversation and more. But it’s far away from where I live and work…making it a “so happen to be there” spot when I run errands nearby.

Like the name suggests, this place is a lot about cats – little feline knick knacks to liven up the atmosphere. As excited as I was about the ambiance, I wished I was just as about the coffee. On a weekday afternoon, service was a tad slow and despite just a few customers present, it took us more than 15 minutes before our coffee and food arrived.

Flat White

My flat white was alright; nothing particularly memorable but it was a solid cup of coffee. I would have preferred it to be stronger/bolder, but I reckon it was due to a milder blend used. I didn’t care much for the beef pastrami sandwich with wholegrain toast, cheese, fresh veggies and wholegrain mustard, but it does make a decent light lunch for people on the go.

Nothing to shout about

Chocolate banana cake

Dense and moist but it didn’t knock my socks off

I also ordered a chocolate banana cake and this took a record time of 30 minutes before I reminded the guy about my order. This turned out disappointing. While the cake had a good amount of nuts, it didn’t quite rock my boat. And the slice could have been bigger for the pricetag it came with.

Overall, I thought the coffee was alright but service needs picking up. I do love the decor so I wouldn’t mind returning if I happen to be around the area.
