Nasi Lemak Royale

Over the Merdeka weekend, rif and I went on a food hunt in search of this highly recommended Nasi Lemak Royale which originated from Kedah. Our friend Loo claimed it was “sedap gilerrr” and that the rice was insanely addictive.

Located at the ground floor of Tiara Duta Condominium

Busy at midnight

The stall is located at the food court in Tiara Duta Condominium in Ampang, along with other stalls selling masakan panas, pizza, pasta and burger. We stayed focus and ordered a plate of nasi lemak to try. The rice is yellow tinged, like nasi kandar but with a rich coconut flavour and a good aroma from the spices used.

Fried chicken

I had my rice with fried chicken fresh out of the fryer, two slices of daging masak hitam and steamed lady fingers. And I made sure it was “kuah campur pekat” so the rice was thick, saucy and robust in flavour. The fried chicken was quite decent while the beef although tasty, was a tad dry for my liking.

The place was almost pitch black, so this was the best photo I could manage

That said, the combination of mixed curries and rich fragrant rice hit the spot for me. Definitely a late night indulgence that does straight to the waistline. Give this a try if you’re willing to pile on the extra calories. Or just head to the gym the following day for a 2-hour cardio workout. That should do the trick.

Assorted curries

Drinks are expensive here. A cup of teh ais cost RM3, definitely taking advantage of the crowd. I was told this nasi lemak is a favourite of the Sultan of Kedah, so if you want to eat like the King, this might be it.

Verdict: Apparently the Sultan’s favourite. Try this if you’re craving a plate of nasi lemak with all the works.
