Worth the wait

I’ve always gotten my coffee fix at Nam Heong White Coffee in Ipoh until some of my readers mentioned the coffeeshop opposite – Sin Yoon Loong – serves even better white coffee. During my last trip to Ipoh, I made it a point to skip my regular flat white for a cuppa joe at this famous establishment.

Crowded. Despite them closing their doors that evening…

The outlet closes by 5pm if I’m not mistaken and the crowd was insane, despite it being 30 minutes to closing time. I didn’t manage to try the dan zhi (toast with soft boiled egg) but the iced white coffee was good stuff. This was better and more aromatic compared to the one from Nam Heong, I reckon.

Iced white coffee

Fried carrot cake from the stall outside

My father in-law’s hot white coffee was also as good – smooth, frothy and full of oomph from the caffeine. Since they ran out of bread, we opted for the fried carrot cake from the stall outside the coffeeshop. Not bad, but nothing fantastic either. Treat this as a tummy filler while having your coffee.

Caramel custard

But the house made custard caramel was wicked stuff. I liked this better than the version from Thean Chun (house of mirrors) which has dropped in standard over the years. For RM2.50 a portion, I’d gladly eat this whenever I’m in the area. :)
