I used to be a fan of the Foursquare app because that was one of my source for tips when it came to ordering food at new places. But there were little or no pictures, which got a bit boring towards the end. So my interest died. When I was introduced to OpenSnap, I found the concept more helpful – a personalised food photo album that details restaurant information, location and also tips.
It is an extension of the OpenRice portal, so you can access restaurant information and use the app to locate nearby restaurants through pictures. I find that useful because I get to keep myself informed with new restaurant updates and share my discoveries with other fellow OpenSnap-pers.

You can also comment on other photos uploaded by OpenSnap-pers, something I do to confirm if a place is worth visiting or a dish is worth ordering. The search can be narrowed down to a particular dish, restaurant, location and even nearby food spots, if you’re can’t decide what to eat.
It is also an outlet for me to grow my food photo-taking skills because you tend get stuck with one signature angle after a while. Looking through these food photos via the app challenges me to do better. Kiasu mentality haha!

I’m not big on the sticker function though, but many are using it to add character to the picture. I prefer my images clean. If you’re one of those who thrive on stickers, this is right down your alley. They have a sticker library for you to play with.

Since it’s under OpenRice, the restaurant contact details and address are usually properly listed. That’s something I find very important because you need to have the contact details available for reference and/or reservation.

It is fairly easy to join – just download the app via Google Play (Android) or AppStore (Apple). Unfortunately, this app isn’t available for Windows and Blackbery yet. Now that’ I’ve gotten the formality out of the way, let me tell you what I don’t fancy about OpenSnap.
Why you all no follow me??! :( Come come la. Follow me on OpenSnap so my profile doesn’t look so pitiful…
