Ah Moi Bachang Kopitiam was recommended to us by our friend who comes from Melaka – apparently, they serve delicious Chinese-style mee rebus and oh chien (oyster omelette). This restaurant used to be an old stall under a tree but have since upgraded to a comfortable shoplot in Bachang, hence the name Ah Moi Bachang Kopitiam.
The place is family-owned and I found the vibe warm and inviting. We got there in between peak hours (11.30am) so service was prompt and food arrived within 15 minutes. We ordered the mee rebus, dry hee kiaw and oh chien to share, plus a plate of nasi lemak for our helper.
I mostly eat Malay-style mee rebus in Melaka so Ah Moi Bachang’s version (RM6.50 – small, RM7.50 – large) was a nice change. It’s still relatively spicy but the texture of the gravy is less gritty compared to the Malay version. This one comes with a good amount of prawn fritters so the flavours and textures hit the spot for me.
Hee Kiaw noodles aren’t our usual go-to option when in Melaka but with little kids in tow, this has become a staple. We tried the dry version (RM6.50 – small, RM7.50 – large) which is savoury sweet from the dark sauce combo. A serving of tangy chilli sauce is provided to elevate the flavours. You can also add a dash of vinegar in the mix, which I like doing.
I reckon only Melaka-style nasi lemak comes with a side of kangkung, and it’s not a bad thing. Ah Moi Bachang ran out of protein so we settled for the basic nasi lemak (RM5) – available on Saturday and Sunday only. Our helper said it was tasty as she prefers her sambal to be both spicy and sweet.
We had a lot of oh chien during this Melaka trip but that still didn’t stop me from ordering a plate (RM10 – small, RM15 – large) to try at Ah Moi Bachang Kopitiam. I’m glad I did as the oh chien was quite good.
Crisp around the edges while light in texture, and just the right amount of wok char. The oysters were plump and juicy too. The chilli dipping sauce is tangy and sweet with a good amount of spice. I reckon this is one of the better oh chien I’ve eaten in Melaka.
The ambiance is a mish mash of old school décor and modern touches such as their robot service “staff” which amused the kids quite a bit. Prices are reasonable and food is quite tasty; I’ll definitely try the Nyonya laksa and mee goreng next.

Ambiance: 6/10
Price: 6.5/10
Food: 6.5/10 (non-halal)
Verdict: Try the mee rebus and oh chien. Better still, get them both in large portions so you don’t regret like I did.
