Bowery Petit is a gourmet and retail concept that is inspired by New York City’s heritage, located in the suburbs of TTDI. The café exudes a Manhattan-esque look and feel, and the team aims to bring together hearty favourites that includes 22-inch pizzas, sweet and savoury treats and other baked goods.
The thin crust pizzas are a feature here – available in a few varieties such as Napoli, Pepperocinno Al Tonno and Bowery Torch. We tried the Bowery Torch (RM15.80) that featured slow roasted beef ribs with BBQ sauce, onions, and olives. I’ve yet to try the pizza in New York but this, I didn’t find particularly memorable.
The herb and cheese monkey bread (RM5.80) was quite disappointing as this supposedly soft and fluffy treat turned out hard and dry. Much better was the Choux A La Crème (RM5.80) which I sampled in dark chocolate and salted caramel.
Both were decadent stuff – simple, but such a joy to eat as the choux puff was light and soft, and the cream, abundant and properly flavoured. If I had to pick one, I would stick go with salted caramel.
The Stout Chocolate Cake seemed to be a popular pick but I personally didn’t fancy this. The cake was slightly dry around the edges which was a pity, as I liked that the cake flavour was intense yet not overly sweet.
rif got some Brownies (RM9.80) to try and I found this a tad on the sweet side. Granted I like my sweet treats, this was a little too much for my liking and I didn’t get to taste any bittersweet chocolate nuances in this dessert.
Coffee is pretty decent here and I like the ambiance at Bowery Petit. I would come back just for the choux puff, and maybe to try the savoury dishes on offer.
Ambiance: 6.5/10
Price: 5.5/10
Food: 5/10 (pork free)
Verdict: Try the salted caramel choux. That’s quite good.
