Café hopping isn’t really my thing as I’m more of a “settler” than a “hopper”, especially when I’ve found the place that serves coffee the way I like. JEQ In The House in Section 17 was an accidental discovery when I was in the vicinity and wanted a quiet coffee session with my other half.
I liked the ambiance at JEQ – cozy and laid-back, with wooden tables and quirky stools, and decorative pieces that livens up the place. While my visit was a few weeks back, I still remember the Tiramisu I had. It was the best among all the cafés I’ve tried, and not too shabby a portion.
They were pretty generous with the caramelized almond and the ratio between cake, mascarpone and nuts was just right for me. There’s also alcohol in it so it’s a bonus. I would definitely order this again on my next visit.
Our usual coffee pattern would comprise a flat white for myself and for rif, a long black. Spot us at any café and that’s probably what we would be having. JEQ serves pretty decent coffee and one I wouldn’t mind returning for, though they could have given me better coffee art. Yes, I’m one of those people who like pretty coffee. 😛
My flat white was smooth with a good amount of acidity; I generally prefer my flat white stronger. I noticed JEQ serves food too, so it seems like good place to do brunch or light meals. For me, a slice (or two!) of tiramisu and flat white does the trick. Fingers crossed, standard remains as good when I revisit next.
Ambiance: 6.5/10
Price: 6/10
Food: 6.5/10 (pork free)
Verdict: The tiramisu is worth trying; I’ll be back for another slice soon.
