Ok, maybe not all women. But that’s definitely the way to MY heart. A good dinner with a breathtaking view tends to leave a lasting impression on me. That was the case with Pacific Regency Hotel Suites, when I was invited to sample their Valentine’s Day promotion.
For RM350++, couples have a choice of dining at Luna Bar or Soi23. The package comes with a rose for the lady, a box of handmade chocolate truffles and a music CD compilation from Luna Bar. If you’re feeling a little more indulgent, go for the Storybook Pacific Regency Romantic Getaway Package (RM888++).
This package includes a one night stay at the Superior Suite, a bottle of Prosecco, a platter of gourmet chocolate truffles, dinner for two at Luna Bar or Soi23, a cosy breakfast in bed for two and aromatherapy massage worth RM200.
rif and I were ushered into Soi23 for some pre-dinner cocktail drinks. A cosmopolitan for me and coffee for him.
The view at Luna Bar that night was breathtaking; I don’t remember KL looking so beautiful. It can be a little chilly at night, so bring a shawl just in case. Otherwise, two shots of whisky will do the trick.
Dinner was a mix of dishes from Soi23 and Luna Bar — I got to try the best of both menus.
Homemade golden pouch with mango coriander sauce. The sauce was a tad sweet for me, but rif thought it was fine.
Lobster bisque with shark’s fin. Smooth and creamy with plenty of shark’s fin, we both enjoyed this. The chef gave this soup a slight twist, by adding lemongrass for a more vibrant flavour.
Stewed chicken thigh in Thai sauce with sautéed potatoes and steamed rice. The Thai sauce packed a punch – a good choice for those with a fiery palate. A chat with the chef revealed that everything was made in-house, right down to the sauces.
Pan seared salmon fillet with green curry and cream, steamed rice and sautéed capsicum. rif and I had a mini debate over this. He liked it because the salmon was full of flavour with a slightly smoke-y taste. I however, thought it would pair better with a milder sauce.
Grilled cod fillet with ginger sauce. The cod was meaty and fatty with a smooth texture. This went very well with the mild ginger sauce, which helped balance the cod’s richness. My favourite dish that night.
Grilled beef tenderloin with black pepper and peppercorn, with sautéed mixed vegetables and garlic fried rice. Decent, but I thought the sauce could have been less peppery. I asked for the tenderloin to be cooked medium.
Chocolate, vanilla and mango parfait was a sweet end to our meal. Simple flavours, but nonetheless satisfying.
On a whole, dinner was decent, but it was the magnificent view that took my breath away. Thank you Zhamir, for playing host that night. We certainly enjoyed ourselves.
