Spacious restaurant

Did another weekend excursion to Sungai Burong recently and instead of our usual seafood place, we tried another one called Restaurant Tien Yin, the first restaurant on your right once you drive into Sungai Burong. There isn’t much of a crowd but most people who come here will order food like there’s no tomorrow. I know we did.

Butter milk crabs

The five of us had Kam Heong mantis prawns (RM18), butter milk crabs (RM50), steamed prawns (RM20), claypot assam stingray (RM24), salted egg yolk squid (RM22) and tom yam seafood (RM16). With rice and two coconuts each. While the cooking style is pretty normal, I like that the seafood is fresh and affordable. Portions are generous too.

Claypot assam fish

I prefer the claypot assam fish here as it’s tangier and spicier compared to Yao Kee’s version. That said, the mantis prawns and squid at Yao Kee is tastier. Skip the seafood tom yam – it doesn’t taste like tom yam at all. More like seafood in spicy soup.

Seafood tom yam

Our bill came up to just RM35 per person. That’s really reasonable considering the amount we ordered. If you happen to be passing by Sungai Burong, do stop by for seafood!

Price: 6.5/10
Food: 6.5/10 (pork free)
Verdict: I prefer Yao Kee but the food here is also pretty decent, especially the assam fish.
