Home Hotel Review Review: V.L. Hatyai Hotel

When rif and I visited Hatyai last month, we stayed at V.L. Hatyai Hotel in the city centre since it seemed pretty convenient to get around based on Google Maps. Plus, pricing was fairly reasonable – we paid about RM100++ per room per night.

Standard room at V.L. Hatyai Hotel

Our room was decent in size and I was glad we were situated on the 12th floor. According to some of our friends, it gets pretty noisy at night since the hotel is situated along the main road.

The room came with a comfortable queen size bed, flat screen TV and basic bathroom amenities. There are no coffee or tea making facilities, but there’s a common hot water dispenser on each floor for such purposes.

Basic shower

While I would have preferred a rainforest showerhead, one cannot complain when the room is this affordable. The showerhead was adequate to give one a good rinse and I like that the bathroom came with an attached bottle opener at the side. Super handy for beer drinkers.

Amenities

The room doesn’t come with Wi-Fi, but you can purchase a Wi-Fi coupon for 20 baht. This allows for one single login per time. Internet connection was fast enough for me to reply emails, WhatsApp messages and login to Facebook.

View from my room

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, so I wouldn’t know the quality of food here. From what I read on TripAdvisor, you’re better off eating in town – we did. I had a pretty awesome Pad Thai and oyster omelette for supper.

Hat Yai town, from the front of the hotel

V.L. Hatyai Hotel is strategically located between the town centre, markets and shopping malls (Odeon, Robinson and Central). You can choose to walk – about 10 to 15 mins – or opt to take a tuk tuk. I suggest you do the former.

Service was decent, and you can call the concierge to arrange for an in-room massage. rif and I called for a foot massage (300 baht per person for one hour) and watched TV throughout the session.

Overall, I had a comfortable stay at V.L. Hatyai Hotel. If you’re a fussy traveller and expect premium rooms and service, this isn’t the hotel for you. But if you’re looking for a clean room with reasonably comfortable bed and amenities, then V.L. Hatyai Hotel is worth considering. Check out the hotel’s website here.
