There’s more than just beer at Sector 7

Sector 7 isn’t just another popular drinking hole in Setiawalk Puchong; the kitchen team dishes up some pretty good pork dishes, especially the pork burger and bacon lollipop. Sounds wicked and tastes awesome.

Beer Kentucky Fried Frog

I’ve never been a fan of frogs, but the Beer Kentucky Fried Frog (RM28) was literally finger licking good. If you can get past the idea of eating an amphibian. The flesh was tender and smooth, and crispy on the outside.

Pork Burger

I rather enjoyed the pork burger (RM25), which was assembled with a fried egg, sautéed mushrooms, lettuce, cucumber and onions. The patty was well seasoned, yet still retained a porky flavour. That said, the patty could have been bigger. More satisfying that way, I feel.

Char Siew Pizza

I’ve eaten the Char Siew Pizza (RM28) before, and this tasted better. Chef Max changed the pizza base, so the latest version was lighter yet held topping of pork char siew, mozzarella cheese and wild rocket well.

Tom Yam Fried Rice

Sector 7 also offers some Asian dishes, and for those who can’t go without rice, you have to try the Tom Yam Fried Rice (RM16). This was one of my favourite dishes that night. Spicy, flavoursome and full of kick. The side serving of fried chicken was also delicious.

Claypot Loh Shi Fun

I didn’t care much for the claypot loh shi fun (RM18) as it tasted a tad one-dimensional. It lacked the magic touch of pork lard as well, so hopefully, they will rectify that.

BBQ Pork Soft Ribs

The BBQ Pork Soft Ribs (RM33) were adequately tender and generously slathered with savoury-sweet sauce. This came with a side of Cajun roasted potatoes and corn salsa.

Chocolate Lava

For dessert, your best bet is the Chocolate Lava (RM32), a warm molten chocolate cake with haagen-dazs ice cream and assorted fruits. I prefer the molten centre less watery, as I don’t like my chocolate to gush out too quickly. Remember to specify that to the wait staff.

Scallop Bites

During my following visit with a group of foodies, we tucked into more food than our stomachs could hold. First up was the Scallop Bites, a popular starter of seared scallops wrapped with streaky bacon and served with lychee and garden salad.

Classic Caesar Salad

The Classic Caesar Salad came with a poached egg on top. Alas, the egg was overcooked and didn’t do justice to the dish.

Clear Tomato Soup with Seafood

I always assumed creamy soup bases are Chef Max’s forte, but he proved me wrong with the Clear Tomato Soup with Seafood. This may be clear, but the broth packed a wallop of flavour from the tomatoes and seafood.

Pork Satay

The Pork Satay was better than the one I tasted at Leonardo’s, where Chef Max used to work. This version was succulent with a good ratio of fat and meat.

Kampung Fried Rice

Yong Chow Fried Rice

Like the tom yam fried rice, Sector 7’s Kampung Fried Rice and Yong Chow Fried Rice boasted wok hei and umami. Between the three, I still like the tom yam fried rice best.

Pork Knuckle

I wasn’t too pleased with the pork knuckle, for the skin was too chewy. While Chef Max has perfected the flavour of the meat, he needs to work on making the skin crispier.

Not crispy enough

Lamb Chop

Pork Chop

I’m still not a fan of the pork chop, but the lamb chop was quite good. The marinade seeped through the meat, giving it good flavour and a tender bite.

Bacon Lollipop

Chef Max’s Bacon Lollipop is awesome stuff and has been my favourite appetizer ever since he made it for me on my 24th Birthday. It’s still as good and pairs well with beer.

Seafood Pizza

I preferred the seafood pizza to the char siew pizza. The sauce was milder for this one, allowing me to enjoy the flavour of the seafood.

Fettuccine Carbonara

Max also ordered a fettuccine carbonara for me, and it was still as good as I remembered it to be. While it’s not quite authentic (real carbonara uses egg yolk, not cream), it’s my comfort dish. This might be a tad rich for some, so remember to share.

Cheesecake

Desserts were the chocolate lava, tiramisu and cheesecake. I found the cheesecake average, possibly because I prefer dense, unbaked cheesecakes.

Tiramisu

The tiramisu could have done with more coffee liquor, as it was rather mild. On a whole, the food is quite decent and good value for money. I’m hoping they would do a double patty pork burger as that would be twice as good. Read about my first visit to Sector 7 here.

The dishes look good. But it’s just odd to dine at a drinking place especially when tables around consist of half-drunk people. Haha.
