Home Food Reviews Club Med Kani Maldives: Beach Villa Review

Like our wedding, rif and I were very particular about our honeymoon destination. We didn’t want to settle for anything less than Maldives because island getaways have always been our kind of thing.

We bought our flight tickets in April and in June, booked a Beach Villa in Club Med Kani for our honeymoon in November. Lady Luck was on our side, because it was hot and sunny throughout our stay there. I was very worried because a good friend who went to Maldives the week before experienced rain the whole time she was there. That would have totally ruined my mood.

We arrived in Male at close to 10pm, and stayed the night at a nearby hotel. The next morning, we met the Club Med Kani representatives at the airport, and took a speed boat to Kani Island. Kani Island is exclusive to Club Med, with clear blue waters, breezy weather and a gorgeous sunrise and sunset. It is relatively close to Male; 30 minutes by speed boat.

Hi Daniel!

Welcome drink

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Ee Von, a Malaysian GO and Daniel, the chief village. I met Daniel this year in Club Med Cherating and he’s now based in Kani for another year or so. Miranda whom I also met in Cherating this year was also in Kani. It was great to see some familiar faces.

For my pleasure? Hmmm… :)

Our Beach Villa had a private beach and was relatively quiet at night. Unlike what people said, no, the walls were not thin and I couldn’t hear my neighbours at night. The Beach Villa features a large semi-open concept bathroom, a king size bed, fridge loaded with soft drinks and snacks (complimentary) beach chairs and flat screen TV.

Besides the Beach Villa, you can opt to stay at the Superior Room (smaller) or splurge on the Lagoon Suite which we did for a night. The Lagoon Suite does not have a private beach like the Beach Villa, as it has a private terrace with a beautiful view over the lagoon and direct access into the sea.

Anyway, each beach villa comes with a butler/caretaker. Ours was Rashid, who was very pleasant throughout our stay. He noticed I use extra towels and left a spare one for me whenever he cleaned our villa. Our toilet had both an indoor and open-air bathroom but no bath tub. Board games are provided in the rooms, in case you need more activities.

There are life jackets in the room in case you want to snorkel on your own. I liked that we had a private beach because we could lie comfortable in the sun, with no distractions. If you’re one who enjoys sunbathing topless (or nude), the Beach Villa in Club Med Kani is ideal.

Lighting felt dimmer compared to the superior rooms – probably to exude a romantic feel. Every evening, there was a turn-down service which I appreciated, as I like seeing my bed nicely made.

Use the safe!

A safe is provided in each room, so please use it to keep your valuables. A Japanese girl on her honeymoon didn’t, and dropped her wedding ring in the middle of the ocean while snorkeling. She cried for the rest of her stay in Kani.

Remember to bring your Mosquito repellent

*Dress by Peep Boutique.

Another tip if you’re going to Club Med Kani especially in October, November and December: BRING MOSQUITO REPELLENT. Despite the sunny weather, it was still monsoon season and there were a lot of mosquitoes that came out during the evening and night. You can also buy mosquito repellent from the souvenir shop there and it costs USD17. The repellent is made in Malaysia by the way.

Lagoon Suites

Stay tuned for my post on the Lagoon Suite, which we managed to book for a night. The Lagoon Suites are always fully booked despite being the most expensive accommodation in Club Med Kani. If you’re planning to stay at the Beach Villa or Lagoon Suite, I suggest you book ahead. Here’s the official website for Club Med Kani. I was told the Japanese and French honeymooners book their rooms at least a year in advance.

The Beach Villa cost RM1,785 per person/night for Normal Season, and RM2,295 per person/night for High Season. Club Med offers an air package (Malaysia Airlines) from RM1,950 per person. This excludes other Taxes, Fuel surcharges and Airline’s Shoulder or Peak surcharges.

Nice pics! Hubby and I went to Bora Bora and stayed at St. Regis. You may want to google that and see if you would like that as your next island getaway!

It is expensive but well worth it! I smiled when I read your comment about the lagoon suite’s baby making properties. You pregnant kah? :P

We stayed at the over water bungalows (OWB) in Bora Bora and it is slightly different to the one in Maldives i.e. the one in Bora Bora was located in much deeper waters so much so we could go snorkelling just off our OWB. Best holiday ever!

I bought the air ticket myself, about 6 months before and during the MAS sale. It was RM1,300 per person for a return flight.

Hi! Lovely pictures and thanks for all the info! Future hubby and I are planning to go to Maldives club med as well :) can’t wait to chill & relax!
Wanna ask you a quick question… You said that you stayed in a hotel nearby that night, which hotel did you stay at? We are planning to do the same since the flight arrives late at night.
Thanks ! J
