Home Food Reviews Pisang Goreng Azmi

The goreng goreng stall at my old office canteen sells good pisang goreng and cucur bawang. I miss it, ever since my department moved to a new location. But the pisang goreng at the old place isn’t that great. It’s just convenient.

Good pisang goreng is hard to come by because the banana quality is a big determining factor for this. Some vendors soak the bananas in sugar water but there is only so much sweetening one can do. Pisang Goreng Azmi in Shah Alam is popular for its fried banana fritters. They also have a branch in Taipan USJ which rif and I checked out over the weekend.

Pisang Awak, Pisang Tanduk and Pisang Nangka are available, but the tastiest is the Pisang Awak (RM1 for 8 pieces). Each piece is crisp on the outside with a caramelised centre. Very aromatic too. Ask for the ‘kerak’, or the fried crispy bits for an extra crunch.

Not the best pisang goreng I’ve eaten, but definitely in the top 5. The queue is long, especially at 3pm so be prepared to wait a bit. I waited almost 30 minutes for my turn. This goes best with teh tarik or kopi panas. Or if you’re greedy like me, buy RM10 worth of fritters and eat it with vanilla ice cream. :D

Ambiance: 5/10
Price: 7/10
Food: 7/10 (halal)
Verdict: Queue, and you shall be rewarded.

wow, RM1 for eight pieces? granted, i don’t buy pisang goreng much, but these days, i’d have thought that RM1 would only get us two pieces at the most. gosh, this is great and scary at the same time. so if i bought RM10 worth, i’d have to finish 80 pieces of pisang goreng! :D
