Blogging…even during Miss Universe Malaysia 2010

    • If you charge for your food reviews.
    • If you only write good things about a restaurant just because you’re getting your meal for free.
    • If you use tissue paper to blot the oil off your McD Fries or any other fries for that matter.
    • If you keep stealing ideas from other bloggers. Don’t be so lame.
    • If you can’t cook a proper meal. Maggi mee with egg and ham/burger with pre-purchased patty isn’t a ‘proper’ meal.
    • If you order a set lunch and ask your friend to order a degustation menu, AND you sneak bites from your friend’s menu.
    • If you don’t know the difference between raw and sous vide.
    • If you’re mostly interested in anti-reviewing food places which other (better) bloggers reviewed.
    • If you use a big ass camera but can’t write to save your life (courtesy of Lot of Cravings)

and i am certainly impress the restaurant owner that would pay that blogger. . hmmm, i want to find that lubang d also . .good to eat free and get paid .. that blogger must be very geng chow ge. .

you shouldnt call yourself a food blogger:
1. just because you use a big ass camera but can’t write to save your life
2. if you eat your steak well done
3. can’t differentiate between tenderloin, sirloin, rib eye

got to go back and think of a few more, quite fun!

Put it this way to all of you lucky people there, at least you have so much of food options(Asian style) any day/night, not like here in Ireland. If those people think they can do blogging that way,then so be it – but the proof is in the pudding!

wei, dont knock maggi mee! done properly, its incredible! my popo used to make it with a lovingly prepared stock loaded with hand sliced shallots, garlic, home made pork meat balls, meat slices and prawns which all her grandkids still crave and dream about to this day.

How can eateries even fall prey to the idea of paid blog reviews? And how long do these eateries last coz the ultimate quality of their food will determine whether they survive or not.

Can we add the category of bloggers who pride themselves almost as “God” that if they don’t write about a certain eatery then the said eatery will “close shop”.

Well said babe! I definitely have several so-called food bloggers that came to mind reading through this list! haha and I’m proud to say that after staying in Sydney for a good few months, I have learnt to cook a lot more dishes! :P

LOL. Although I am just another blogger who blogs about food, with very low unique visit per day especially after i lost my domain lolx

For me, i will not do invited review. I did it once, with invitation from another blogger. Ever since, I tell myself I won’t be doing it anymore

I like the way of paying my own food, without the notice of the owner, so that at least i won’t get special treatment, in terms of the service by the waiter, and also the food quality. I did notice many restaurants where their apprentice are cooking the food instead of the main chef. I don’t mind if the apprentice are cooking good one, but sometimes they will be making mistakes like serving medium (or rare) steak to someone ordered medium rare, and especially you are paying for a premium price for it.

All those won’t happened if it’s an invited review right? ANyway, for me, as long as a blogger write it clearly that it’s an invited review when they blog about it, then it’s all good :p

I couldn’t agree more. Usually when I accept an invited review (only twice a month), I’ll revisit to see if the food and service are really as good as they were without the owner/PR person.

I want my readers to enjoy the same service and food quality/taste/portion as I did. :)

Good topic to deliberate on!
I think generally people starts off food blogging as a passion or a journey to explore the culinary world (like myself) and sharing personal views to me it’s fine even though they might not know what they are talking about. It really depends on whether on the audience wants to take in what they read, and if u r good your blog reputation will be built in time. :)

When you mention that people who can’t cook shouldn’t review, is it because they will never be able to go into details beyond “it was yummy/yucky” or is it because those who can’t cook have no right to criticise the cooking of others? I can’t cook (beyond Maggi Mee, pasta with canned sauce, and maybe the odd plate of stir-fry veggie) but does that mean that I can’t tell if something is too salty, overcooked, lean/fat, spicy, expensive or bland? Of if the service/ambience/cleanliness was good/bad? Sure, I probably wouldn’t be able to give constructive criticism on how the chef could improve the dish by adding an extra dash of this or that, or slicing the meat this way or that way, but surely the hoi polloi are allowed an opinion?
