Home Food Reviews Brewerkz, Singapore

Golden Ale & Oatmeal Stout

Brewerkz is Singapore oldest and largest microbrewery that brews eight different ales, lagers and stout beers. Many insist that this place is a must visit when you’re in Singapore, so visit I did. rif and I designed our own beer sampler (SGD13 for 4 x 90ml beer) each and here’s a tasting note we did on each beer*:

Beer sampler options

Pilsner & India Pale Ale

My beer sampler

India pale ale: Very bitter with a lingering after taste. This lasted for quite a while. I found it quite malty as well. It may be Asia’s best beer, but definitely not mine.

Golden Ale: Easy drinking, but nothing memorable. Reminds me of the Weizen at Craft Brews which I drink quite often.

Pilsner: There’s a whiff of lychee in this. A sweet start but bitter and snappy finish. Relatively light.

Oatmeal stout: Smells and tastes of coffee. There’s minimal stout character, except for the slight caramel flavour. I prefer the chocolate stout at Craft Brews and Taps Beer Bar.

American Pale Ale: Fruity with a wheat flavour. This beer had a good aroma and strong hop.

Kolsch: Very wheat-y and yeasty. I found it difficult to enjoy.

White Rabbit: This had a flowery aroma and hints of banana with peppery notes across the tongue. Would probably pair well with spicy wedges.

Chocolate Porter: Bitter start with a chocolate ending. This had a lingering bitter aftertaste. Best taken when it’s very cold as the beer isn’t as good once it warms up.

*Opinions may vary from other individuals.

On a whole, I found Brewerkz overrated. The beers were a hit and miss, and glasses weren’t chilled, which further dampened my experience there. Oh well, at least I can say I’ve tried it.

the white rabbit sounds like something i’d go for! i’m not a fan of beer in general, but if forced to, something fruity-flowery would be up my alley :D
